Under the new guidance concerning
school attendance the local education authority state that it is not
the parent’s right to take their child out of school in term time.
Permission for holidays (which have to be approved by the school
governors) should only be granted where the parent can demonstrate
that the request satisfies exceptional circumstances. The school
will then decide if the benefit of the holiday outweighs the benefit
of the absence. The pupils must have a record of attendance of more
than 90% over the past year and only one period of 10 days leave of
absence should be granted for an annual holiday in term time.
